What is SR22 and FR44 in Florida?
SR22 and FR44 are two different types insurance filing and you need either one of them to reinstate your driving license. You will be asked to file an SR22 with the state DMV if you are caught for reckless driving, driving without insurance or any other traffic violations. If you are looking for an SR22 then contact your auto insurance provider and see what they can offer. The companies will charge a one time filing fee (around $25) to file SR22 with the DMV on your behalf. The SR22 amount will be added to your auto insurance premium. You will be asked to carry an SR22 for at least 3 years. FR44 is also a similar form like SR22 but you will be asked to get an FR44 if you caught driving for a DWI or DUI. The amount and time to carry FR44 depends on the crime that you commit. Unlike SR22, you have to pay FR44 consecutively for three years without any lapse. If there is any lapse, you won’t be able to reinstate your license and you have to start the payment again to restore your license.
What happens to my SR22 if I am moving to or from Florida?
If you are moving out of Florida, you will be required to carry SR22 or FR44 till the time your license is reinstated. Moving out of the state won’t free you from Florida SR22 or FR44. If you are moving to Florida, you will be asked to continue with the SR22 (if you have one) from the previous state. You will be asked to file an SR22 insurance if you don’t meet the state requirements.
