Your dishwasher is a pretty useful appliance to have around the house. It’s multifunctional and helps you get through a lot of work without even lifting a hand. But be careful; you can’t put all of your kitchen accessories in your dishwasher.
Here are 7 things that you should never put in your dishwasher.
Anything wooden.
Whether it’s your cutting boards, wooden spoons, or even pans with wooden handles, don’t put them in your dishwasher. The wood can’t take your dishwasher’s cleaning process and will ruin both your dishes and your appliance.
Anything with adhesives.
If you want to wash jam jars, peanut butter bottles and other items, remove the paper labels and rinse off the adhesives before you put them in your dishwasher. Paper and adhesives come off during the washing process and get stuck to the filters of your dishwasher.
Printed or hand painted ceramic.
“Never put any printed or hand painted mugs or cookware in your dishwasher.”
The print or paint comes off during the washing process and clogs your dishwasher’s filters.
Cast iron skillet.
Your cast iron skillet is one of the most important and most challenging pieces of cookware in your kitchen. You have to season your cast iron before you use it and rinse it with warm water after use. Never use soap to wash your cast iron, and don’t even think about putting it in the dishwasher.
Knives.
If you’re one to take pride in your handsome collection of chef’s knives, then don’t put them in your dishwasher. They will lose their sharp edges and leave scratches on other dishes and your dishwasher. However, if your dishwasher has a separate rack for knives, you can go ahead. Just be careful not to put in knives that have wooden handles; the wood may warp in the dishwasher.
Plated dishes.
“None of your fancy dishes are allowed inside your dishwasher.”
That includes mild ceramics, gold, silver or copper plated china, and your heirloom dinner sets. These are delicate materials, and the jets of water within the dishwasher might wash off the prints and plated metal.
Disposables
Don’t put in any of your everyday disposable kitchen items like plastic containers, metal, cling wrap, or foil boxes. These will melt during the hot water cycle and clog your dishwasher’s filters.
